Football in Rio, with the ticket and the gate sorted
A guided match at the Maracanã, the stadium tour on a quiet day or the Flamengo museum. Compared by transfer, club, cancellation and what happens when the game is moved.
Match, stadium tour or museum
A match needs a date with a home game and a ticket bought in your name. The stadium tour and the museum work on almost any day of your stay.
A match with a guide
An agency buys the ticket, deals with the registration and takes you to the game, by private van, by bus or on foot from a meeting point.
- Flamengo and Fluminense at the Maracanã
- Botafogo and Vasco in their own grounds
- Dates move; check the refund rule
The Maracanã stadium tour
The stadium on a day without a game. The visitor tour runs daily from 9 am to 5 pm and shuts hours before kick-off on match days.
- A self-guided entry ticket is the most-reviewed option

How a visitor gets into a match in Rio
Buying a ticket for a Brazilian league game is tied to your identity. The agencies compared on this site take that step off your hands.
- Brazil’s General Sports Law (Lei 14.597/2023, Article 148) requires arenas with more than 20,000 places to identify fans by facial recognition at the entrance. The Maracanã is far above that size.
- The clubs sell through their own ticket portals, and those ask you to register first, with your face for the biometric check, photo ID and in some cases a CPF. A CPF is the Brazilian taxpayer number, and visitors normally do not have one.
- The agencies on this site buy the ticket for you and take over that registration. What they need from you, such as passport details or a photo, and by when, is on each product page.
- Bring the photo ID you booked with. One Futebol Tour listing states that there is no refund if the biometric registration is not completed, so send the requested details in time.
The CBF and the TV broadcasters fix the final day and kick-off time, and games do move. Insider Adventures and Tour da bola refund in full when their match is rescheduled. Gray Line can be cancelled free of charge up to four days before the start, most other offers up to 24 hours before. The rule of every match visit is on the Maracanã comparison page.

On the day of the game
Leave the big bag at the hotel: the stadiums turn away large bags, umbrellas and selfie sticks, and cameras are restricted. Expect a ticket for a sector rather than a numbered seat, with your group sitting or standing together. Plan the way back before kick-off: after the final whistle the whole crowd leaves at once, and not every listing says whether its transfer covers the return trip.

About this comparison
This site lists bookable match visits, stadium tours and museum visits in Rio with transfer, club, cancellation and the refund rule for a moved game. It has no connection to any club, to the CBF or to the Maracanã. When you book through a link here, GetYourGuide or Viator pays us a commission out of their margin; your price stays the same.
Before you book a football visit
Can a tourist buy a football ticket in Rio?
Yes, but rarely in the way you would at home. The big stadiums identify every fan by facial recognition at the gate, and the club ticket portals ask for a registration before the purchase, with photo ID and sometimes a CPF, the Brazilian taxpayer number. Without a CPF this is hard to manage alone, so agencies offer to buy the ticket and take care of that step.
What happens if the match is moved?
Brazilian fixtures move often, because the confederation and the broadcasters set the final dates and kick-off times. Insider Adventures and Tour da bola refund in full when their match is moved. For the other offers, check the product page before you book; the standard free cancellation is up to 24 hours before the start, and four days for the Gray Line match visit.
Which clubs play at the Maracanã?
Flamengo and Fluminense play their home games there. Botafogo plays at the Estádio Nilton Santos and Vasco da Gama at São Januário; both are covered by separate offers on this site.
Do I get a numbered seat?
Usually you get a ticket for a sector, not a fixed seat, and the group sits or stands together in that sector. If a specific area matters to you, read the seating section of the listing before booking.
When is there football in Rio?
As of October 2026, the Brazilian Série A runs until 2 December 2026 and the Rio state championship starts in January. In 2027 the domestic game pauses from 24 June to 25 July for the Women’s World Cup. Exact dates and kick-off times are confirmed later and can change.
Can I visit the Maracanã without a match?
Yes. The stadium tour runs daily from 9 am to 5 pm, but it closes several hours before kick-off on match days, so plan it for a day without a game.
